Electrolux Home Products Inc. asked a Virginia federal judge Tuesday to toss a proposed class action alleging that its dishwashers are apt to overheat and catch fire, contending that two consumers' vague claims about an unidentified defect don't hold up.

Electrolux knew that its dishwashers often overheated and burst into flames, but lied and told thousands of consumers they were safe, a proposed consumer class alleged in Virginia federal court on Wednesday.
