The maker of Bass shoes asked a California federal court on Thursday to dismiss allegations that its outlet-store merchandise is an inferior tier of first-offer goods that are fraudulently presented and priced as having been cleared out of retail stores, saying the complaint is short on details.

G.H. Bass & Co. and parent company AM Retail Group Inc. were smacked Tuesday with a proposed class action in California federal court by a shopper claiming the shoemaker's sale prices at outlet stores represent "phantom" savings, as purportedly original prices on merchandise are false and misleading.
