A trial will be needed to determine whether the government may proceed with tax liens on an aircraft, as it remains unclear whether the purchasers of the plane could have discovered the pre-existing liens, a Missouri federal judge said Monday.

The U.S. government recently told a Missouri federal court that its tax liens on an airplane were filed properly in federal court, instead of with the Federal Aviation Authority, making them valid even though ownership of the aircraft changed.
