Gilead Sciences won its bid to transfer a patent infringement suit filed by the University of Minnesota over the company's blockbuster hepatitis C drugs to California on Friday when a Minnesota federal judge invoked a recent Federal Circuit ruling that says such actions can be filed only where a defendant has a long-standing physical location.

The University of Minnesota filed a patent infringement suit against Gilead Sciences in Minnesota federal court on Monday alleging the company's blockbuster hepatitis C drugs Sovaldi, Harvoni and Epclusa infringe a patent issued to a scientist at the university.
