Electrolux Home Products Inc. wants an Illinois federal judge to block insurer Allstate from pursuing payouts over 44 different dryer fires under the umbrella of one single $3.6 million lawsuit, saying Monday that the cases have little in common beyond a model of dryer.

Allstate filed a product liability suit in Illinois federal court on Tuesday seeking to recover $3.6 million in policyholder payouts in connection with fire-causing dryers that Electrolux allegedly knew were defective, the latest in more than a half-dozen such suits.
