Email Scam Not Covered Computer Fraud, Mich. Judge Says
A die manufacturer is not entitled to coverage under a Travelers policy for $800,000 it lost when thieves posing as a vendor used fraudulent emails to deceive the company into wiring money to a sham bank account, a Michigan federal judge ruled Tuesday, holding that the scheme doesn't fit the policy's definition of computer fraud.

A die manufacturer on Friday asked a Michigan federal court to reject an attempt by Travelers Casualty and Surety Co. of America to dismiss a suit claiming that it is owed coverage for $830,000 allegedly lost to fraud, saying that the email-based scam it fell victim to fits neatly in the policy's definition of "computer fraud."
