A federal magistrate judge on Tuesday refused to toss negligence, public nuisance and other claims from the Port of Portland's suit seeking to peg Monsanto Co. with liability for the cleanup of polychlorinated biphenyls, ruling they weren't barred by the statute of limitations.

Monsanto Corp. told an Oregon federal court on Friday that allegations made by the Port of Portland that the company is liable for the cleanup of polychlorinated biphenyls, a class of toxic and once-common chemicals the company allegedly kept manufacturing even after it knew they would end up accumulating in the environment, violate the statute of limitations.
