A federal magistrate judge in Florida recommended on Wednesday that a $1.5 million arbitration award issued to Spanish satellite operator Hispasat SA should be affirmed, rejecting Bantel Telecom LLC's argument that the Madrid-based arbitrator was biased toward a company also based in the city.

Bantel Telecom LLC can't fight a $1.5 million arbitration award issued to Spanish satellite operator Hispasat SA on the grounds of arbitrator bias, Hispasat told a Florida federal court on Friday, saying the operator's and arbitrator's shared residence of Madrid does not violate International Chamber of Commerce rules.
