Medical device maker Sorin Group USA Inc. was given a win on Friday in a suit in Massachusetts federal court alleging that it concealed a defect in a heart valve that led to a teenager's death.

Sorin Group USA Inc. began working with federal regulators to reinforce its prosthetic heart valves six months before doctors discovered one of the devices had rapidly deteriorated in a young woman, the manufacturer said Thursday in a court filing denying having withheld information from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The parents of a young woman who died in a Boston hospital after her artificial heart valve crumbled inside her won a federal judge's approval on Thursday to pursue claims against the device manufacturer, Sorin Group USA Inc., for allegedly failing to alert regulators that the prosthetic posed extreme risks for people younger than 30.
