Bankrupt 'Hedge Fund' Boss Facing Charges Must Pay $1.4M
A man who led an illegal commodity pool that held itself out as a hedge fund before he filed for bankruptcy and was charged with theft was ordered on Monday to pay $1.4 million after failing to contest a suit by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, with a California federal judge saying further penalties would be useless.

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission asked a California federal judge Wednesday to freeze the assets of a foreign exchange company and its husband-and-wife owners after they allegedly took $1.7 million from investors and then tried to cover up bad trades and transfers to themselves with phony account statements.
