Slawson Exploration Co. Inc. on Thursday notified a North Dakota federal court it was ending its suit against the U.S. Department of the Interior after an administrative hearing favored the company and allowed it to continue oil and gas drilling in the state in the face of a challenge by the Mandan Hidatsa and Arikara Nation.

A North Dakota federal judge on Monday again allowed Slawson Exploration Co. Inc. to continue oil and gas drilling in the state despite an administrative challenge by the Mandan, Hidatsa & Arikara Nation, finding the company had a strong chance of reversing the Interior Board of Land Appeals' decision to temporarily halt its operations pending the tribe's appeal.

The Mandan, Hidatsa & Arikara Nation on Thursday told a North Dakota federal court that drilling company Slawson Exploration Co. Inc. appealed an administrative order prematurely, arguing that the court should throw the case out so that the U.S. Department of the Interior's process can continue unimpeded.
