A Delaware federal judge has rebuffed Microchip Technology's bid for a new trial after a jury found that an automotive technology supplier didn't infringe Microchip's patent on a USB system, ruling that Microchip didn't raise trial issues that warrant a "do over."

Microchip Technology Inc. wants a new trial after losing in front of a Delaware federal jury last month, pinning the setback in part on what it calls unfair cross-examination questions that prompted a Microchip engineer to try and fail "to compare two patent claims on the fly."

A Delaware federal jury found Wednesday that an automotive technology supplier didn't directly infringe Microchip Technology Inc.'s patent for a Universal Serial Bus system that can be controlled by multiple devices, but refused to invalidate the patent for being obvious or poorly described.
