An Arizona county and its flood control agency in a proposed amicus brief backed a federal court bid by tribes and environmental groups to stop planned work on a copper mine, saying it would cause lasting harm to the area's water supply, tourism business and natural habitats.

Tribes and environmental groups pressed an Arizona federal judge Wednesday to order a stop to planned work on the Rosemont copper mine project, saying it would cause serious damage to environmental and cultural sites even if the court rules on the case in the next couple of months.
