    A proposed class of cellphone users who subscribed to receive sports text updates have asked a Florida federal judge to preliminarily approve a $2.5 million settlement with Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, Hyundai and Mercedes-Benz, which allegedly violated telecommunications law by also texting unsolicited sales promotions.

    Spam Text Suit Defendants Want Nationwide Claims Axed

    The Mid-Atlantic Sports Network, Hyundai Motor America Inc. and Mercedes-Benz USA LLC jointly asked a Florida federal judge Monday to strike the nationwide class claims from a suit accusing the companies of violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by sending unsolicited advertising and telemarketing text messages using an autodialer.
