The Fifth Circuit vacated a $160 million ruling against Eni US Operating Co. Inc. on Thursday in its dispute over a drilling contract with Transocean Offshore Deepwater Drilling Inc., finding the trial court used incorrect reasoning in reaching that figure.

U.S. oil and gas company Eni urged the Fifth Circuit to overturn a decision against it in a dispute over a faulty drilling rig, saying the trial court misinterpreted its contract when it ruled that it was in breach of contract for cutting off its agreement with a drilling company.
