A U.S.-based insurer that is now in liquidation ended its dispute Wednesday with a London market reinsurer over a fraction of a $120 million pollution settlement it said the reinsurer owed due to an arrangement in which the insurer "fronted" policies for several U.K. reinsurers.

A U.S.-based insurer that "fronted" policies for London market reinsurers, allowing the London entities to keep business with a U.S. chemical manufacturer without being admitted to write policies in the country, said a Massachusetts jury should find them responsible for a fraction of a $120 million pollution settlement.
