A Virginia federal judge Thursday awarded $82.9 million in statutory damages to a dozen record labels, including Warner Bros. A Virginia federal court has thrown out a copyright infringement lawsuit brought by a slew of record companies, including Warner Bros. Records Inc. and Sony Music Entertainment, against the Russian owner of two so-called stream-ripping websites used to pirate music, finding that the U.S. federal courts lack jurisdiction to hear the suit.
