An Illinois federal jury said Springfield, Illinois, should pay a white former budget employee $100,000 for promoting a Black worker over her and then disciplining her when she complained, just over a year after the Seventh Circuit revived the suit because of the city's conflicting explanations.

7th Circ. Revives Ex-Ill. City Gov't Worker's Race Bias Suit
The Seventh Circuit has renewed an Illinois woman's claims that she was passed over for a promotion within the city of Springfield's government because she is white, reversing the lower court's summary judgment ruling because the city told conflicting stories about its hiring decision.
