An Alabama federal court has shut down environmental groups' suit alleging that new rates set by the Tennessee Valley Authority discourage solar power use, ruling that the groups had not proved the change will cause power plants to emit more pollution and injure their members.

A coalition of environmental groups filed suit against the Tennessee Valley Authority over its electricity rates in Alabama federal court, claiming the underlying environmental analysis does not properly consider the rates' negative impact on alternative energies in violation of the National Environmental Policy Act.
