A California federal judge has freed Apple and Samsung from patent infringement allegations tied to dual-lens cameras in their respective cell phones, saying the camera patent in question is ineligible for patent protection under the U.S. Supreme Court's Alice decision.

Apple and Samsung urged a California federal judge Thursday to dismiss separate patent infringement lawsuits against them over their cellphone cameras' dual-lens configuration, arguing "there's nothing special or inventive" about the concept and that photographers have been using it for ages.
