New York immigration enforcement is working to stamp out glitches as it expands the use of video-only hearings for jailed immigrants subject to removal, a Manhattan federal judge heard Wednesday, as detainees asked for in-person access to counsel and courts.

A proposed class of individuals in immigration detention challenged a recent policy from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's New York field office to conduct immigration court hearings over video teleconference, rather than in person, arguing in a lawsuit filed in Manhattan federal court late Tuesday that the policy violates their constitutional rights.
