Starbucks Corp. fired back at a supplier suing it over the recall of a French press coffee brewer, saying the supplier had broken their contract by hiding the fact that it outsourced production to a separate company.

A Manhattan federal judge on Thursday gave Bodum a chance to amend its libel suit against Starbucks after the Seattle coffee giant put the squeeze on the Swiss appliance maker's claims and called for dismissal.

Swiss home appliance maker Bodum Holding AG and its U.S. affiliate sued Starbucks Corp. in New York federal court Friday, alleging the coffee store chain needlessly pulled a Bodum-made French press from its shelves and is trying to make it pay for the recall.
