A California federal judge certified some subclasses in a product liability class action against Ford over an alleged steering defect known as the "death wobble," but denied certification of a nationwide class and trimmed or partially trimmed 13 of the 30 claims.

Ford has urged a California federal court to toss a proposed class action accusing it of hiding a defect that causes violent shaking in some of its trucks, arguing that the driver who filed the suit waited too long before seeking repair of his vehicle and bringing his claims.

Ford Motor Co. was aware of and actively hid a defect in its F-250 and F-350 trucks that causes a so-called Death Wobble — violent shaking and difficulty steering — while driving in typical conditions, a consumer is claiming in a proposed class action filed Monday.
