A Northern Ohio federal judge has barred two metal manufacturers from making, selling or otherwise dealing with patented dissolvable alloy materials held by drilling tools material company Terves LLC until the patents expire.

An Ohio federal jury has awarded more than $700,000 in lost profits to a drilling tool materials company in its patent suit against two metal importers over dissolvable alloys, finding that the manufacturers infringed two patents covering the metal composition but did not do so willfully.

Lawyers for a Chinese metals importer ground a jury trial to a halt on Monday and asked a federal judge to declare a mistrial in a case brought by an Ohio magnesium dealer claiming that the importer owes $1.8 million for infringing patents that cover new ways of mixing metal.
