A California federal judge has awarded Columbia Sportswear nearly $2.4 million in damages and entered default judgment against textile manufacturer Ventex Co. Ltd., finding that Columbia sufficiently pled Ventex violated federal and Oregon racketeering laws by conspiring with a rival to wrongly launch administrative challenges to Columbia's patents.

Textile maker Columbia Sportswear wants a rival it accuses of participating in a patent-related conspiracy to pay it more than $10 million, saying Ventex Co. wrongly filed petitions at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board on behalf of a third party barred from doing so.

A California federal court has granted Columbia Sportswear's motion to dismiss a suit that made "allegations of a conspiracy" between Seirus Innovative Accessories Inc. and another company to launch administrative challenges to Columbia's patents, following a settlement notice.
