An Illinois federal judge has significantly cut down a $30 million lawsuit alleging Nielsen charged media mogul Byron Allen's production company exorbitant fees to track The Weather Channel's ratings, saying the studio may only pursue contract claims for the seven-month period the parties were between payment agreements.

Nielsen Co. has told an Illinois federal court that there's no merit to claims that it charged exorbitant rates to a production company owned by media mogul Byron Allen, because the ratings giant simply charged the rates agreed on by the two sophisticated parties.
