A Michigan federal judge on Thursday gave final approval to a class action settlement ending claims that Fiat Chrysler sold some Jeeps and other vehicles with defective engines, a mix of extended warranties, software upgrades and repair reimbursements the parties said was worth $108 million.

Consumers hit Fiat Chrysler with a proposed class action in Michigan federal court Wednesday alleging the company knowingly sold Jeep vehicles equipped with dangerously defective engines that sucked up excessive amounts of oil, resulting in premature wear and catastrophic engine failure.
