A Minnesota federal judge on Tuesday approved an agreement between 3M and a former Marine accused of attempting to orchestrate a massive scheme to sell nonexistent N95 respirators, issuing a consent judgment and permanent injunction preventing the defendant from representing that he is connected to the company.

A former Marine urged a Minnesota federal judge Wednesday to toss a suit brought by 3M alleging he attempted a multibillion-dollar scam involving the purchase of N95 respirators and fake ties to Bill Gates, arguing the court has no jurisdiction over him because of his slim Minnesota connections.

3M filed a lawsuit in Minnesota federal court Friday accusing a former Marine of using his service record and non-existent ties to 3M and the Gates Foundation to try and trick companies into giving him billions or even trillions of dollars to purchase N95 respirators he does not have.
