The Weather Channel has agreed to settle a proposed class action in California accusing it of flouting privacy laws in a multimillion-dollar scheme to track and sell app users' geolocation data to third parties even after the app is turned off.

A California federal judge ruled that the Weather Channel must face most of a proposed class action accusing the company of tracking its app users' location — even when the app was turned off — and of selling the geolocation data to third parties.
