A California sportfishing nonprofit on Wednesday told a federal court that an AT&T subsidiary has agreed to pay an estimated $1.5 million to remove its lead-clad telecom cables in Lake Tahoe to end litigation that the cables pose a health threat.

An AT&T subsidiary said Tuesday that it "strongly disagrees" with recent Wall Street Journal reporting stating that its lead-clad telecom cables in Lake Tahoe and elsewhere are a public health hazard, arguing in a filing in California federal court that its own testing has shown otherwise.
