Whitepages Settles Ill., Ohio Publicity Suits For $4M
Whitepages Inc. has agreed to pay more than $4 million to settle claims that it violated Illinois and Ohio right to publicity laws by using names and identifying information of proposed class members in free previews advertising their monthly subscription services and background reports.

Whitepages Can't Escape Privacy Suit Over Ad Displays
A Washington federal judge has refused to release Whitepages Inc. from a putative class action accusing it of unlawfully using individuals' names and other identifying characteristics to entice website visitors to purchase the company's services, finding the displayed data has commercial value and the challenge didn't violate the First Amendment.
