The Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation sent Michigan's suit against manufacturers of "forever chemicals" to multidistrict litigation in South Carolina, overruling the state's arguments that the action is distinct because it doesn't involve the use of firefighting foams that contain the substances.

3M Co. told a Michigan federal court that a lawsuit filed by Michigan's attorney general against manufacturers and sellers of polyfluoroalkyl substances called PFAS touches on work done at the behest of the federal government and the matter should therefore be heard in federal court.
