General Motors cannot escape claims that a defect in the safety system of some of its trucks and SUVs caused airbags not to deploy, a California federal judge has ruled, saying the drivers sufficiently alleged the automaker was aware of the defect.

A California federal judge tossed a proposed class action against General Motors LLC alleging a software defect in trucks and SUVs cut off airbag deployments prematurely, saying the plaintiffs failed to plausibly plead a well-defined defect, but giving them leave to amend their complaint and try again.
