A New Jersey federal judge has dismissed a case against a New York attorney for allegedly misplacing $1 million in funds meant for mortgage closings, saying that the insurance company that brought the suit did not prove the attorney should be held responsible.

A New York attorney and his firm on Tuesday asked a federal judge to toss a Texas-based insurer's suit alleging he and a New Jersey attorney made off with $1 million from two mortgage closings, saying the insurer hasn't successfully argued that he acted negligently or fraudulently.
