A California federal judge on Friday preliminarily approved Equifax's deal that would give about 39,000 class members payments of $500 each to resolve claims the credit bureau reported unenforceable debts, but warned the plaintiffs' attorneys he would likely hold a portion of their fee until he learned the ultimate settlement payout.
