A proposed class of consumers pushed Wednesday to make a manufacturer face claims that it lied to the government for years about defects in its fire extinguishers, and that it subjected customers to a recall process that became a "slow-motion train wreck."

A North Carolina federal judge has thrown out most claims against Walter Kidde Portable Equipment Inc. in a proposed class action alleging it sold faulty fire extinguishers, leaving only California and Florida law implied warranty claims, and claims under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.
