A Hong Kong-based pet food distributor argued Thursday that, under California law, it didn't agree to let an arbitrator decide the proper venue for its multimillion-dollar dispute with the Natural Balance pet food company just because it agreed to American Arbitration Association rules.

A California-based pet food manufacturer urged a federal court to send its multimillion-dollar dispute with a Hong Kong-based pet food wholesale company to arbitration, saying the company's argument that it was forced to consent to arbitration is "ludicrous."
