Netflix has reached a tentative settlement with a nonprofit Cuban exile organization that accused the streaming service of defamation over its portrayal in a 2019 spy movie, with the parties announcing in Miami federal court Tuesday that they had agreed to certain terms the evening before to dismiss the case.

Netflix is urging a Florida federal court to end a defamation lawsuit by a nonprofit Cuban exile organization and its leader over a 2019 spy thriller starring Penélope Cruz, arguing the organization failed to show any of the film's allegedly defamatory scenes were false or that the streaming giant should be liable just for licensing it on its platform.

The leader of nonprofit Cuban exile organization Brothers to the Rescue urged a Florida federal judge on Tuesday to reject a recommendation to dismiss foreign movie producers from his defamation suit against Netflix and others over the film "The Wasp Network," which he says falsely portrayed the group as terrorists.
