Samsung, 'Hoist With Its Own Petard,' Must Pay $4M Arb. Fees
An Illinois federal judge ordered Samsung on Tuesday to pay $4 million in individual arbitration fees on behalf of 35,651 customers alleging it illegally collected biometric data, writing "Samsung was surely thinking about money" when it wrote its arbitration agreement and alluding to William Shakespeare, saying Samsung was "hoist with its own petard."

Samsung Says Law Firm Seeks To 'Bury' It In Arbitration Fees
Samsung told an Illinois federal judge Monday that Labaton Sucharow LLP has made an "aggressive threat to bury Samsung under the weight of hundreds of millions of dollars in arbitration fees absent payment to them" after individual arbitration claims were filed against it on behalf of nearly 50,000 Samsung Galaxy device users over alleged unlawful collection of their biometric data.
