A Louisiana federal judge referred a dispute over coverage for $3.1 million in hurricane and looting damage to bankruptcy court despite a bid by insurers to send the dispute to arbitration, saying it's the most appropriate course of action because the bankrupt policyholder's reorganization plan depends on money from this dispute to satisfy its debt.

A group of insurers led by Allianz unit Interstate Fire & Casualty Co. told a Louisiana federal court to reject an apartment complex owner's effort to move its $3.1 million Hurricane Ida damages claim to bankruptcy court, arguing the court should send it to arbitration.
