A Florida federal jury has awarded more than $3 million in damages to a New York insurance brokerage in a trial over employment contracts, finding that a competitor interfered with its business by helping two employees breach fiduciary duties when they switched jobs and brought client lists with them.

Avoiding arguments about Federal Trade Commission proposals to stymie noncompete agreements, a federal judge in Florida issued a preliminary injunction that enforces nonsolicitation covenants and bans six former insurance brokerage employees, including a team leader who earned more than $3 million a year, from luring customers to a competitor.
