A Washington, D.C., federal judge on Friday signed off on a settlement ending the Center for Biological Diversity's suit against federal fisheries managers for failing to designate critical habitat for corals in the Caribbean and Indo-Pacific regions.

Federal fisheries managers illegally delayed creating protected areas for threatened coral for more than a year, putting those species at risk from overfishing, pollution, development and other threats, the Center for Biological Diversity alleged in a lawsuit filed Monday in D.C. federal court.
