    Bittrex Seeks To Undo $24M Judgment After SEC Crypto Pivot

    Bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange Bittrex urged a Seattle federal judge to toss a $24 million judgment entered as part of a 2023 settlement with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, arguing that the agency has since done an "about-face" on crypto and abandoned its position that digital tokens are securities.

    Bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange Bittrex Inc. and a foreign affiliate have agreed to pay $24 million to settle the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission's claims that the Seattle-based company operated as an unregistered securities platform, and worked with token issuers to minimize evidence of investment contracts and evade regulatory scrutiny.

    The crypto exchange Bittrex, just weeks after saying it is closing shop in the U.S., was hit Monday with a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission lawsuit in federal court in Seattle that claimed the firm is an unregistered securities platform and that it worked with token issuers to "scrub" language about their assets that could draw regulators' attention.
