Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has urged a federal court to toss a legal challenge by a group of Gainesville residents over new legislation that transfers control of a city-owned utility company to a board he appointed, saying immunity bars the complaint because he doesn't actually enforce that law.

A group of Gainesville, Florida, community activists filed a legal challenge Monday to a new law that removes control of the local city-owned utility from elected city commissioners to a board appointed by the governor and that bars the board from considering "social, political or ideological interests" when making operational decisions.
