JPMorgan Chase Bank cannot pursue state law trade secret claims against a data analytics company over the alleged misuse of credit card data supplied for regulatory purposes, with a Delaware federal judge ruling Monday that the bank still hasn't tied that conduct to Delaware or Ohio.

A federal judge in Delaware has ruled that JPMorgan Chase & Co. sufficiently alleged Argus Information & Advisory Services violated a federal trade secrets law by allegedly misusing anonymized credit card data collected from banks, but said JPMorgan's contention Argus violated a Delaware trade secret law could not stand.

TransUnion and its data unit Argus Information & Advisory Services have told a Delaware federal judge that they plan to seek dismissal of a JPMorgan Chase & Co. lawsuit tied to their recent $37 million settlement with the government over claims that Argus misused credit card data it was collecting from banks on regulators' behalf.
