Experian Seeing 70 Tax Phishing Scams Weekly, Director Says

Law360, New York (April 7, 2016, 9:52 PM EDT) -- In the time since the IRS warned companies in early March about a phishing scam that tricks employees into handing over their colleagues' personal tax information, Experian has handled more than 70 data breaches each week tied to the scheme, the company's director of data breach resolution group told Law360 Wednesday.

The IRS issued the alert on March 1 telling payroll and human resources professionals to beware of an emerging phishing email scheme that persuades employees to give scammers payroll data, including W-2 forms that contain Social Security numbers and other personally identifiable information, by purporting to be from company executives...
