DOJ Aims To Shield Stimulus Funds From Fraud

Law360, New York (May 12, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- The Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice has unveiled a new initiative to train government officials and contractors to recognize and report attempts to profit illegally from the federal government's stimulus effort.

The DOJ said Tuesday that its so-called Recovery Initiative was intended to help government agencies "insulate" funds provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 from collusion and fraud, and to make sure that parties that do abuse stimulus funds for anti-competitive purposes are prosecuted.
