Pfizer To Pay $75M In Nigerian Meningitis Case

Law360, New York (May 14, 2009, 12:00 AM EDT) -- Pfizer Inc. is reportedly set to fork over $75 million as part of an out-of-court deal to settle a multibillion-dollar case with the government of Nigeria's Kano state that alleges the pharmaceutical giant's meningitis drug trials killed 11 children and caused brain damage in and paralyzed others.

Kano state spokesman Suleyau Sule said Thursday that while no final settlement had been signed, the state had agreed to lay its charges to rest in exchange for the $75 million payout from Pfizer during a meeting in London...
