USPTO Looks To Automate Identification Of Prior Art

Law360, Washington (March 15, 2018, 6:34 PM EDT) -- The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is making progress on a plan to streamline the patent examination process through an automated system to identify relevant prior art early in the review, Commissioner for Patents Andrew Hirshfeld said Thursday in Washington, D.C.

By automatically pulling relevant information on prior art at the start of the patent review process, the USPTO hopes to execute more-thorough examinations in less time, Hirshfeld said at a talk held at Sidley Austin LLP’s Washington office and hosted by the Licensing Executives Society....
