Trump Bans Venezuelan Cryptocurrency Transactions In US
Law360 (March 19, 2018, 7:07 PM EDT) -- President Donald Trump on Monday issued an executive order banning transactions within the United States that involve Venezuela's new cryptocurrency, marking the administration’s latest attempt to escalate pressure on Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro’s beleaguered regime.
Trump’s executive order prohibits U.S. persons and others subject to U.S. jurisdiction from engaging in transactions involving any digital currency, coin or token issued by, for or on behalf of the Venezuelan government since Jan. 9. The action authorizes the U.S. Department of the Treasury to employ all powers necessary to implement the order, which became effective at 12:15 p.m. EST on Monday.
